Why have I been so quiet?  Well I’ve been busy with Solo Sound.net and EUCantina.net.  With lots of projects on the horizon, I’ve been so preoccupied I’ve fallen behind in my book reading! (I KNOW RIGHT?!)

I’m still working on Stealth, it probably didn’t help starting it on the trip to Disney Land.  And speaking of Disney Land, what a great family vacation that was!  We had a blast, and to end it all we got to have a personalized ride on the Star Tours ride!  Wookiee Cookies anyone?
So no, I’ve not been frozen in carbonite, I’ve just been sidetracked.  Please forgive me and don’t send a Death Star to blow up my world!

Straight from the Mother Site: EUCantina.net is pleased to announce our new partner website, SoloSound.net. Solo Sound produces and hosts all of our EUCantina podcasts.

Solo Sound was created primarily to produce and host all EUCantina.net podcasts. EUCantina.net is a Star Wars Expanded Universe fansite that reports news, provides EU material reviews, and conducts interviews with some of the biggest names in Star Wars. With all of that being taken into account, EUCantina felt like it had to expand into a separate website for its many podcasts.

Solo Sound currently produces four unofficial Star Wars podcasts: EUCast, We Talk Clones, The EU Review, and Star Wars Gaming Now. Of these four, only EUCast is produced live. You can listen to EUCast live every Thursday at 9:00 EST here.

Podcasts are not the limit for Solo Sound. Starting this year, Solo Sound will be producing Star Wars audio dramas. Fan audio dramas are a fun way to tell original or adapted Star Wars stories through audio.

In the future,  Solo Sound will give other Star Wars fans a place to host their podcast or audio drama, so that they never have to go through the work of creating a website or setting up a feed. Solo Sound also gives other podcasters or Star Wars websites the chance to promote themselves on our podcasts, for free.

A massive group of Star Wars fans have worked to create Solo Sound. We would like to thank  Ted McDonald, Austin Blankenship, Andrew Lupi, William Devereux, Nathan P. Butler, Mark Hurliman, Tom Pniewski, and Stephen Rice for all of their hard work on the website and/or the podcasts.

Solo Sound also produces original music used for parts of the podcasts.

Latest IR2 Review

New reviews added for Imperial Commando: 501st and Darth Bane: Dynasty of Evil

  • Imperial Commando: 501st

The Jedi have been decimated in the Great Purge, and the Republic has fallen. Now the former Republic Commandos — the galaxy’s finest special forces troops, cloned from Jango Fett — find themselves on opposing sides and in very different armor. Some have deserted and fled to Mandalore with the mercenaries, renegade clone troopers, and rogue Jedi who make up Kal Skirata’s ragtag resistance to Imperial occupation. Others — including men from Delta and Omega squads — now serve as Imperial Commandos, a black ops unit within Vader’s own 501st Legion, tasked to hunt down fugitive Jedi and clone deserters…

Darth Bane: Dynasty of Evil

Darth Bane: Dynasty of Evil

If the dark side’s most powerful master can capture the ultimate secret, the Sith will never die—and neither will Darth Bane.

Twenty years have passed since Darth Bane, reigning Dark Lord of the Sith, demolished the ancient order devoted to the dark side and reinvented it as a circle of two: one Master to wield the power and pass on the wisdom, and one apprentice to learn, challenge, and ultimately usurp the Dark Lord in a duel to the death. But Bane’s acolyte, Zannah, has yet to engage her Master in mortal combat and prove herself a worthy successor. Determined that the Sith dream of galactic domination will not die with him, Bane vows to learn the secret of a forgotten Dark Lord that will assure the Sith’s immortality–and his own…

Cold as Hoth!

So we awake on the morning of the 26th with no power.  Unfortunately this turned into an all day event.  The city I live in had a transformer station go out or some such thing.  The shirty thing about it was that my neighbor had power, just not our house down.  The good thing was that my Parents house was still receiving juice.

So we bundled into our van, (the one with no heat in the front, but needs to blow cold air so the rear can crank out heat) and I had to fight the garage door.  “In case of Emergency Pull” it reads.  It should say “In case of emergency THROW YOURSELF INTO THIS THING!”

I was contemplating dismantling the door at one point.   But before I did I gave it one last pull and really hung on to the thing and used my 200 lbs to good use.  (so little do I get to use it for good!)  We were up at my parents for most of the day, so we managed to keep the kids warm for most of the day.  But even my parents house was not immune to the power issues, they too lost power around 6pm, just before it was dark out.

We spent a few more hours at the parents playing dice in the candlelight.  We even bust out the old Kerosene lamps from when I was a young boy growing up in the backwoods when we had no power.  So it was a treat to show the kids what it was like for Dad as a kid at night.  It wasn’t like we had plenty of light at night, but at least we had a wood stove then.

My current house at the moment has no working heat.  We have had to bust out the plug in units recently after the big cold storm came through and knocked the heating unit out.  So when we finally received our call from the power company saying power was restored we still had to get the house warm.   It was by far one for the coldest days on “my family’s” lives!

Heck we even went to the BK Lounge to eat and heat up.  We were laughing at the fact that many people in town were doing the same thing.  You’d go out side and see the snow level just creeping down the mountains.  I enjoyed the day (aside from the COLD- I hate being cold messes with my back!) but the kids were freaked out when they were caught in the black outs at my parents and when the power fluctuated a few times after they said it was fixed.

I had to explain to my daughter that “you can’t die when the power goes out.”  Her little heart was convinced she’d just die in the dark or something.

I guess all in all it could have been worse- it could have been during a thunder storm.  My wife is terrified of those, and hence my kids hate them as well.  But I’m the storm junky.  I don’t mind a little Hoth action every now and again.

The house was a Hail of Nerf darts.  I looked to my left.  No good, the boy was guarding the left with his Maverick.  That left the starboard side of room open.  But for how long?

Figuring it’s now or never I made my move.  Just then the patient daughter opened fire from her sniper perch behind the TV stand.  Darts flew.  I dove.  Only to roll across the floor to come up at the Computer desk behind the recliners.  Finally cover!  But this too proved short lived.  For at that moment my partner.  My OWN Partner used her single dart to end me.  I laid lifeless on station orbiting Kashyyyk with a suction dart sticking from between my eyes.  Betrayal is a dish best served to the unsuspecting…

That said the Nerf N-strikes we bought were a success.  The kids were able to over look the fact that Dad forgot to “Charge” the Electric Scooter.  When the kids woke up my son was nice enough to wake his sister before checking out the gifts.  I give him credit, when I was that age I’d have scoped the prizes myself before getting the sister up.  I was a Sith in that regard.

Their Great Grandmother braved the elements to travel south 390 miles for the Christmas festivities.

Great times were had by all over the last 2 nights. And plenty of memories were captured.

I wish everyone out there in the GFFA and beyond a very Happy and Merry Holiday Season!
